From Tuesday, May 7, 2019, you can go to the eDV website to check whether you are selected or not. This is called Entrant Status Check (ESC).

Fiscal Year

The U.S. Government uses a so-called Fiscal Year that is different from a Calendar Year. A Fiscal Year runs from October 1st in one year till September 30th in the next year.
The DV-program starts usually on the first day of a fiscal year and ends at the end of the second fiscal year thereafter. This means that after September 30, 2020, at 0.00 EDT, no more visas can be issued under the DV 2020 Program.

Who is Eligible

You can participate in the DV-program if you were born in a country or territory with a low rate of immigration into the U.S. The list of countries/territories changes from year to year.
Where you currently live does not matter.

  • People already in the U.S. on a temporary work or study visa are allowed to enter.
  • People registered for a visa in another category (e.g. family-related or based on work) are also allowed to participate in the DV-program.

There is no minimum age or maximum age limit for entering. But the education and/or work experience requirement make that most participants are 18 or over.

It is FREE

Entering the program is free. Fees are charged when a Diversity Visa is issued.

Nota Bene. There is only ONE real eDV website where you can enter for free.
All other websites are run by commercial agencies. Some of them look very official as they show the U.S. Government emblem, the American flag, etc. Do not be fooled !
