Required Visa Payments

Two Fees

If you submit your Visa Application you must pay

  • a fee for the processing of the application, called the Visa Fee
  • and
  • a fee for the issuance of your Green Card, called the Immigrant Fee.

These fees must be paid by every Diversity Visa Applicant – you and if applicable your spouse and/or your child/children.
If all Visa Numbers are exhausted before your application is finalized – which means you will not get a visa – no fees are charged.

Visa Fee

The fee for the Visa Application is usually payable during the Consular Visa Interview. Some Embassies/Consulates mandate payment before the interview takes place. Check the web pages of the Embassy or Consulate for instructions when and how to pay.
The Visa Fee will NOT be refunded if you are found not eligible for a Diversity Visa.
Payment will also not be refunded if you decide not to activate your Green Card.
The fee is currently $330.

Immigrant Fee

If you are issued your Diversity Visa you must also pay the non-refundable Immigrant Fee. This fee must be paid after you receive your visa, preferably before you leave for the U.S. But can also be paid immediately after your arrival in the U.S.
Your Green Card will not be issued until the Immigrant Fee is received by USCIS.
The Immigrant Fee is currently $220.

For Selected Entrants already living in the U.S.:
Each Diversity Visa Status Adjustment applicant must pay two fees.

  • A non-refundable DV Surcharge or Administrative Fee. The Surcharge must be paid to the State Department.
The DV Surcharge is currently $330.
  • and
  • The USCIS Fee required for submitting an I-485 Adjustment of Status Application. This fee is non-refundable.
The I-485 AOS Fee is currently $1,140. Additionally there is an $85 fee for Biometric Services. Making the total fee $1,225.
For children under 14 the I-485 AOS Fee is $750 if their application is filed together with the application of the parent(s). For this age-group no Biometrics is required.
