The DV 2018 Program

Visa Bulletin

The Visa Bulletin is part of the website of the Department of State and is published on or about the 9th day of each month.
Go to travel.state.gov and search Visa Bulletin.

The bulletin contains news about the progress for all Categories of Permanent Visas.

Scroll to Section B DIVERSITY IMMIGRANT CATEGORY FOR (name of month)
You will see a chart with the headers REGIONS and ALL DV CHARGEABILITY AREAS EXCEPT THOSE LISTED SEPARATELY.
Next to each REGION is the Allocated Cut-Off Number for that Region for that month.
In some Regions separate – lower – numbers are listed for a few countries.

Scroll further to Section C THE DIVERSITY IMMIGRANT CATEGORY RANK CUT-OFFS WHICH WILL APPLY IN (name of month). Again you will see a chart listing Regions and Cut-Off Numbers.

Usually the numbers for Section C are higher than for B. If the Cut-Off Numbers for a Region or country stays the same for two consecutive months it is not good news for Selected Entrants with a Case Number that is the same or above the Cut-Off. It usually means that all available visas have been issued already. For that Region or country the DV-program is then over and those Selectees will not get a Green Card.

If the term CURRENT shows for a Region or country instead of a Cut-Off Number that is good news. It means the State Department expects enough visas will be available for all eligible applicants in that Region.

Visa Numbers become officially available on the first day of the month the bulletin is issued for.
