AOS Procedure Part 1 Selective Service
AOS Procedure Part 1
Form DS-260 asks to confirm that you are familiar with the Selective Service System (S.S.S.) obligation if
- you are a male between 18 and 26 years of age
- a male family member immigrating with you is over 18 but under 21.
In that case you must indicate that you read the S.S.S. Requirement Section and Form DS-1810 Notice of Duty to Register with the U.S. Selective Service System. Otherwise the form will not be accepted by CEAC.
Registration for Selective Service is required of all males living in the U.S. between the ages of 18 and 26. Any male immigrant between 18 and 26 must register with the S.S.S. upon arrival. This requirement also applies to non-immigrants.
To register go to the nearest post office and obtain a S.S.S. registration form. Fill in the information requested and hand the completed form to the postal clerk.
Within 90 days you should receive a Registration Acknowledgement postcard. If you do not hear from S.S.S. within this period you must contact them to verify your registration status.
